Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a highly relaxed and deep state of meditation that progresses through the many stages of the mind.  Yoga Nidra, meaning yogic sleep, is a journey through stillness and mindfulness in order to gain a greater sense of clarity, calmness, and serenity.  In this deep sleep meditation your conscious mind will gently guide you through thought patterns, emotions, images, and sensations that can sometimes bring you to a higher form of understanding oneself.

In Yoga Nidra you will travel past the waking stage, beyond the dreaming stage, and into the realm of the deep sleep stage, yet you will still remain awake and conscious.  After relaxing your body and calming your mind, you will plant an intention for your life, for example, caring for your health, excelling at work, etc.  A sankalpa, or invocation is a powerful communication with the subconscious mind to help manifest deeply held desires and intentions.  The beauty of Yoga Nidra is the more you practice and incorporate it, the greater the results and benefits will be.

Yoga Nidra is also said to be five times more restorative than regular sleep.  You will leave this workshop not only feeling more refreshed than you ever have, but hopefully with a higher sense of daily awareness that you can take with you wherever you go.

Please bring a blanket, pillows and an open heart.

Doctors, gurus and neighborhood do-gooders are all in the habit of prescribing relaxation as a remedy for taut nerves, work pressures and emotional upheavals. But very few know, or will tell you, how to accomplish the deceptively simple task of relaxing.

Yoga Nidra seems to have the answer. Indeed, the practice is so relaxing that it becomes almost impossible to remain awake. But you come out feeling more rested than you do after a good night's sleep, and injected with large doses of gumption to tackle the day's tasks. The Swami says that prolonged suspension between wakefulness and sleep—called the hypnogogic state—in Yoga Nidra may have untold benefits that go beyond the therapeutic.
